(SBCC)
provides
an opportunity for talented young singers to participate in a choral
music education program of the highest quality. Children
with unchanged
voices, in grades 4 and up will be empowered to perform both as an individual
artist and as a member of a working ensemble. SBCC offers a safe, supportive
environment that encourages creative exploration and risk-taking. The voice is
our most musical instrument and through singing children are able to develop
confidence in their own musical abilities.
SBCC Choral Programs (Apprentice
Choir & Select Choir)
The Apprentice Choir is an intermediate level
choir for emerging singers to further their musicianship and begin singing
in two-part harmony
(ages 9-12). Choral rehearsals will include games,
exercises and activities on musical concepts such as; melody, rhythm, harmony,
timbre, dynamics, form, style, performance and musical skills; singing, theory
and sight-reading. Musical concepts are highlighted through singing, listening
and analysis.

personal and artistic growth and provides exciting performance opportunities,
children learn about great music by singing it, while mastering the musicianship
skills that allow them to experience the joy of singing with artistry and
develop the self-discipline and confidence that will enhance many areas of
their lives. Perform: in at least two concerts and at least two
community events per year. Special appearances may be arranged with MUCH notice.
Have Fun: Throughout the year, the SBCC will have special events which let
the choristers be together just to have fun, such as the workshops, pizza
parties, and other choral events.
During rehearsals, singers will receive vocal coaching and learn repertoire
selected to challenge
the choir’s skill level and cover a wide spectrum of classical works, gospel,
spiritual, jazz and multicultural arrangements in a variety of languages.
Goals:
Each singer learns:
•
To negotiate a choral score
•
to sight sing music and read rhythms
